300! And 300 Yards!

A good day yesterday, as Kevin and I hit the Toronto Golf Show. Mostly it was booths wanting to give you lots of pamphlets on golf in northern Michigan or North Carolina or Quebec, but there was a driving range area where one could test clubs, and Hank Haney [Tiger Woods' coach] gave a short seminar on the basics of swing mechanics. I guess it was worth $15, but I don’t know that I’d see it every year. Afterwards I hit one of those crazy square drivers at Golf Town… and then on to the main event, 300.

Joined by Dennis and an enthusiastic crowd that liked to clap, 300 turned out to be a pretty decent fantasy romp. The Persians were depicted as mystical monsters for the most part, and the thing was grossly inaccurate [read the article HERE from the Toronto Star that Kev sent me], but one can’t care about these things if one wants to have a good time. I don’t know if I liked it as much as I liked Sin City, but I’ll give it 3 1/2 thumbs ups out of 5 for visual effort [and the Spartan queen. Yowza!]. If you get that the movie depicts chopped-off limbs and heads in order to show you that the Spartans could care less about death or life in battle and not because the film’s director is trying to gross you out, go see the film. It’s fun, it’s really fast-moving, and THE SPARTAN QUEEN IS HOT.

Anyhow! Good stuff.
